Florida Governor Charlie Crist | Teaching Task Force

Florida Governor Charlie Crist | Teaching Task Force

Message from Governor Charlie Crist

As Governor, I understand that Florida’s teachers need the necessary resources to prepare our students for success in the classroom and to excel as they enter the workforce. Florida’s Task Force on Educational Excellence will be an important collaboration of education stakeholders who will work diligently towards strengthening teacher effectiveness and along with it, student achievement.

I want to thank the members of Florida’s Task Force on Educational Excellence for your commitment to supporting our students and teachers. By working together to improve the quality of education in Florida’s schools, we are investing in the future success of our great state and our nation.

About Florida’s Task Force on Eductional Excellence

  • Governor Crist created Florida’s Task Force on Educational Excellence with the signing of Executive Order 10-126. He tasked the group with broadening stakeholder support for strategies to promote and sustain a high quality teacher workforce. The Task Force on Educational Excellence will make recommendations to the Governor by December, 2010, and will continue efforts of the Governor’s Race to the Top Working Group that recently developed the revised Memorandum of Understanding included in Florida’s successful Race to the Top application.
  • Florida’s Task Force on Educational Excellence will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of up to $700 million Florida will receive in winning the Race to the Top grant. The Task Force will operate as an advisory body regarding assessments and make recommendations to the Governor and State Board of Education. Additionally, the task force will make recommendations for legislation.
  • Florida’s Task Force on Educational Excellence primary focus will be on student and teacher evaluation, as well as rewarding compensation for the Sunshine State’s best teachers.
