Miami Country Day School is building a new $9 million library building on its campus in Miami Shores.
The two-story building also will include club rooms where students can have meetings and events, a student activity center where students can interact and do homework, and a studio for media production.
The 25,000-square-foot building will be called the Katherine E. Franco Center for Learning Resources, and it should open around this time next year, said Sheryl M. Piper, the school's director of development.
Money for the project came from donors, including the Michael and Katherine Franco Foundation.
Students, faculty and parents are enthusiastic about the new building, which will sit in the center of the campus, 601 NE 107th St.
``The library is a very welcome addition to the campus, and everyone is excited to use it,'' said Tamara Feola, parents' association president.
Miami Country Day is a nonprofit college preparatory school founded in 1938.
The school has approximately 900 students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Annual tuition varies from $15,000 to $21,000.
